October is on fire with shows and events

It turns out that our biggest month is October and that makes a whole lot of sense because temps start to drop and it feels ok and guilt free to go inside at night. Our windows and doors stay open during shows so everyone in Littleton can get a taste for the particular flavor of music is happening that night. Starting off the first week of October we have three different things happening; Stand Up Comedy Open Mic on Tuesday, Stelth Ulvang on Wednesday and then a brand new local super group, Sweet Jay on Friday on top of all that its our first ever Latin Beats & Eats collaboration with the Community Builders Hub and Little Grille. Run on sentences aside, this will be a week to take notice of what we got going on and get yourself out to see a show & event. Become a member, it really helps us a lot… Like a lot, a lot!

Heading into fall with lots of great shows & events

September is looking good, we continue our long running Stand Up Comedy Open Mic at the beginning of the month and bring back the Under 21 Open Mic at the end. What? Horn led dance party was a huge hit last year, if you like your funk and soul and deep horns, this is your night! Jazz-trained, indie-rock duo Deerlady (singer and bassist Mali Obomsawin and guitarist and singer Magdalena Abrego) deliver shoegaze-leaning songs. We say this all the time… this is a show you won’t want to miss, get tickets. Heavy music fans rejoice, we got a four band line up that will chew you up and spit you out. We like salty and we like sweet so the next week we welcome back our favorite Ashley Warwick in her bombshell jazz torch singer persona. The last time this group played we sold out, get tickets early if you know you want to go! We end off the month with Under 21 Open Mic where we welcome the youth of the North Country to perform on our stage, this is a chem free event.

Two shows at The Loading Dock you will want to experience

Wednesday May 29 we are featuring two amazing musicians, Marisa Anderson + Footings (Eric Gagne solo guitar and vocals). Marisa Anderson channels the history of the guitar and stretches the boundaries of tradition. Her deeply original work applies elements of minimalism, electronic music, drone and 20th century classical music to compositions based on blues, jazz, gospel and country music, re-imagining the landscape of American music. The New Yorker calls Anderson one of the most distinctive guitar players of her generation, while NPR refers to her as among ‘this era’s most powerful players . Her work has been featured in Billboard, Rolling Stone, NPR, SPIN, Pitchfork, the BBC and The Wire. Festival appearances include Big Ears, Pitchfork Midwinter, Le Guess Who and the Copenhagen Jazz Festival. Her latest solo album, Still, Here, is out now on Thrill Jockey Records.

Footings is a musical project from Eric Gagne, a journeyman songwriter, singer, and guitarist who has been doing things out in the world since 2003. Footings is a natural progression from Eric’s earlier folk explorations in Redwing Blackbird and Passerine. This show will feature solo Footings, Eric Gagne playing guitar and singing songs with a sound that embraces a sort of inner light derived from folk music, but surrounds it with a variety of rockist tropes.

The Julian Gerstin Sextet

Global jazz, creative music with intense rhythms and engaging melodies

The songs are Julian’s original compositions based on a lifetime of living and working with musicians from the Caribbean, Africa and the Middle East. You’ll hear drums from Martinique playing a rhythm from Bulgaria, or an Arabic classical form remade with rumba and blues. The musicians are strong, sophisticated and funky: pianist Eugene Uman, Artistic Director of the Vermont Jazz Center; clarinet virtuoso Anna Patton; bassist Wes Brown, a veteran of such jazz luminaries as Earl “Fatha” Hines, Anthony Braxton and Wadada Leo Smith; Ben James, John Tchicai's drummer for several years; and creative improvisor Don Anderson on trumpet.

March shows and events

This month; punk, jazz, rap & hip hop, groove, world, trance.

We got you, covering all the bases. Sit down, stand up, jam out, rock on!

Our big show this month is Club d’Elf on Friday March 29. If you are not familiar and love deep groove funk jams, this is a show you will want to be present for. Club d’Elf is a loose collective of Boston MA heavy musicians. Its a super group that explores the depth of sonic textures from Morocco mixed with modern sounds and expert musicianship. Our favorite local-ish guitar wizard, Randy Roos, will be featured this evening.

Developing scenes in the north country

Stand Up Comedy Open Mic is growing. You could even say that maybe there is a scene around comedy happening in the north country. Since we began hosting this series of events in collaboration with David Casey we’ve seen our audiences and comics growing. More local funny people trying out stand up comedy and coming back to try out more material. Stand Up Comedy Open Mic takes place on the first Tuesday of each month. This is a free event that is open to the public. 21+ please due to content.

The next Stand Up Comedy Open Mic is on Tuesday April 2nd

Warming up winter, heading into the deeps

We are bulking up our February line up of shows and community based events. It might be our busiest month to date… Feels good and there are some shows coming up that we are really excited about with a little something for everyone this month. A few first time events we are experimenting with this month are Barn Dance which will be a mix of contra and square dances, all experience levels welcome! We will have a caller and a live band! At the end of the month we have our first queer artist gathering and its not just for artists, you can be art-curious, feeling like an artist is totally enough.

If you’re interested in getting more involved we offer sponsorship opportunities, volunteering, and memberships. As always, a straight up donation is always super appreciated!

We are really looking forward to the upcoming Lily Seabird show in our room on Sunday Feb 18th. For the past year and a half we’ve been featuring her music on our Monday morning North Country Community Radio (WZNC-LP 99.9) Daydream Nation. Songs from the new album started popping up at the end of last year and we spun them frequently and religiously. Now the whole album is out for all to hear and the songs within the context of this complete work resonate in such a unique way. Just wait for the rest of the world to catch up with this amazing Burlington based artist… Have a listen for yourself on Spotify or Bandcamp. Read Kerri Harrington’s review of the album.
